What the validator checks
- That it is valid GeoJSON, with a Feature or FeatureCollection.
- That geometries are Point, MultiPoint, Polygon or MultiPolygon, the only ones TRACES accepts.
- That coordinates are in WGS84, in longitude, latitude order, with at least 6 decimals.
- That every polygon has at least 4 coordinate pairs, is closed and has no holes or crossing lines.
- That no point represents a plot larger than 4 hectares: those need the full polygon.
- That optional properties are spelled correctly: ProductionPlace, ProducerName, ProducerCountry (two-letter code) and Area (a number, in hectares).
- That the file does not exceed 25 MB per statement.
How to build a GeoJSON that TRACES accepts
Up to 4 hectares, a point with the area in hectares is enough. If the plot is larger, the technician walks the boundary and the full polygon is saved. Coordinates need at least 6 decimals; more does not help, because the system truncates to 6 and can create duplicate points. Two points are enough for straight sides.
{"type": "FeatureCollection", "features": [ {"type": "Feature", "properties": {"ProducerName": "Producer 1", "ProducerCountry": "PE", "ProductionPlace": "Plot 1", "Area": 2.5}, "geometry": {"type": "Point", "coordinates": [-72.538211, -13.163068]}} ]}
Properties are case-sensitive: "productionplace" does not work. And the area must be a number: "Area": "3" is read as zero.

FAQ
Is my file uploaded to a server?
No. The check runs in your browser: the file is not sent to Origen or anyone else.
How many decimals do coordinates need?
At least six, under the regulation. The EU system truncates coordinates to six decimal places, so more decimals add nothing.
When is a polygon needed instead of a point?
When the plot is larger than 4 hectares. If a point has no area, the system assumes 4 hectares.
If the file passes the validator, am I EUDR compliant?
No. It only means the format is correct. You still need to show there was no deforestation after 31 December 2020 and that the product complies with the laws of the country of production.
